Some quick calculations: Ive’s icon grid provides an 87% icon to button ratio. Mrgan’s corrected grid provides a 72% icon to button ratio. I usually aim for 62% to 75%.
It seems odd to apply rigid math to design, but you shouldn’t think about the numbers. Think about how the result feels after the numbers are used.
